Can I seek compensation after I’ve been burned due to a hot liquid?

Scalding hot liquids can cause burns.  After hearing about McDonald’s lawsuits, and seeing cups that say, “Caution, Liquid is Hot,” you might think that you can’t seek compensation for the damages if you are accidentally burned by excessively hot liquids.

This is not always the case.

You may have not known that you were interacting with liquids of excessive temperatures. The business or person may not have taken proper precautions to help you avoid being burned by liquids.

For example, hot water scald injuries at an early childhood care center or nursing home.  The facility could be liable for burns of a child or elderly person.

Every case is different. This is why it is extremely important to speak with an experienced burn injury attorney after you or your family member has suffered a traumatic scalding incident.

Liquids that are commonly involved in scalding injuries:

  • Coffee
  • Boiling water
  • Tea

Unfortunately, children experience these scalding injuries far, far too frequently. It isn’t always because they don’t know any better, either. Many times they are in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they become the victim of a dangerous situation.

If you or your loved one has experienced severe scalding burns, know that you’re not alone. There are many support groups out there to guide you through this. For more information about your burn injury and how to proceed afterward, call our St. Louis office. These cases are complicated at best, but we have the experience and the knowledge to fight to the finish for you and your family.

I was burned by a product, but I didn’t follow the directions. Should I speak with a personal injury attorney?

The answer to this question will always be yes. If you come to a personal injury attorney with this situation, he or she is likely to ask you a few questions:

  • Could you easily read all of the instructions?
  • What directions, if any, didn’t you follow?
  • What warning, if any, did the product provide?
  • Have you used this product before?

Product manufacturers are supposed to make safety precautions and important directions very, very evident.

Unfortunately, many times even packaging for harsh chemical products don’t make the most important safety information as explicit as it should be. This is what causes a lot of people to experience severe chemical product related burns.

It’s not your fault—never assume that it is, especially after experiencing an injury as severe as a chemical burn.

At Schlapprizzi Attorneys at Law, we will only pursue further legal action if it is in your best interest. Your long-term well-being is worth a call to our office, especially if this burn is one you’ll cope with for the rest of your life.

To learn more about product liability cases and how you should react after you’ve been injured by a defective product, call our St. Louis, Missouri office. We’ve helped many people throughout the St. Louis area with their product liability burn cases, and we know we can help you.
